About project B11 (completed 12/2013)

Project title: Mechanisms and in vivo function of mGluR-mediated synaptic signaling.

Principal investigators: Jana Hartmann, Arthur Konnerth

Summary: The general goal of the project was the identification of the mechanisms and the in vivo function of slow synaptic transmission in the brain. As a model system we used the mGluR1/TRPC3-mediated synaptic transmission in cerebellar Purkinje cells (PCs). We pursued two basic strategies in parallel: First, identification of the TRPC3- mediated sEPSP and elucidation of its role for cerebellar sensory processing in vivo and second, the detailed exploration of TRPC3-associated signaling on a cellular and subcellular level in vitro.
